East Coast GRC Haj Send Off Ceremony
date: sunday, 30 july 2017 | time: 1.30 pm -3 pm
venue: Heartbeat @ Bedok, Function Room 1, 11 Bedok North Street 1 S(460214)
The annual haj send-off ceremony was held at the Function Room #1 of the new Kampung Chai Chee Community Club this afternoon. The advisors and grassroot leaders (GRLs) of ECGRC came to support and bid bon voyage to our Muslim residents who will be embarking on this important pilgrimage. Participants were given a briefing by Ustaz and he explained the reasons why our Muslim friends undergo this pilgrimage yearly. He said that during the haj, a total of 2 million pilgrims are present at their holy site in Mecca. This represents one third of the total number of people living in Singapore. He added that the challenge was to get the 2 million pilgrims (who speaks different languages) to come and pray at the same time. It was a very interesting talk on the haj pilgrimage.
The participants were treated to a reception and Advisor Dr Maliki encouraged the pilgrims to get to know the GRLs present today. This is to enable them to network with the GRLs and to seek their support for their families when they are away in Mecca during their pilgrimage. The haj pilgrims were given a token (blanket) for their haj. In Singapore, the yearly quota for haj pilgrims is 800 residents.
