celebrating mazu festival @ yan kit temple
date: saturday, 5 november 2022 | time: 6.30 - 9 pm
venue: mariam way
Yan Kit Temple celebrated the Mazu festival today after an absence of 3 years due to the Covid pandemic. It was a lower keyed event compared to prior years (largely due to the current prevailing Covid pandemic situation). It is prudent to be cautious and take necessary precautions to avoid too large a crowd at the temple.
Mazu or Matsu is a Chinese sea goddess also known by several other names and titles. She is the deified form of the legendary figure Lin Mo or Lin Moniang, a Fujianese shamaness whose life span is traditionally dated from 960 to 987. Revered after her death as a tutelary deity of seafarers, including fishermen and sailors, her worship spread throughout China's coastal regions and overseas Chinese communities throughout Southeast Asia and even to the United States. She was thought to roam the seas, protecting her believers through miraculous interventions.
Advisor Dr Maliki was the GOH for the event and he has come to support Yan Kit temple in their yearly celebration (except during Covid lock down). It was good to see many old friends again and to meet the new Chairman of the temple (Raymond Ng) as well as the prior Chairman Michael. We at Siglap Harmony Circle are happy to support our esteemed member Yan Kit temple in their annual Mazu celebration.
