Advisor Dr Maliki, IRCC and GRLs came to celebrate International Day of Older Person at CHKMH this morning. He informed the audience that in Singapore, there are 1:4 seniors who are 65 years old and by the year 2030, there will be 900k seniors >65 years old. The UN estimates that by by 2050, there will be 2 billion seniors world wide. He said that the government is helping our seniors with the Pioneer Generation Package and as announced by PM Lee at this year’s NDR, the government will launch the Merdeka package next year for seniors 60 years and above. Apart from rising health cost, seniors nowadays uses diapers daily whereby they use about 5 diapers per day. Today’s event was highlighted by the donation of 20K diapers for the residents at CHKMH and the less fortunate residents at Siglap. The diapers was contributed by a generous corporate citizen who is a Siglap resident - commemorating UN international year of older persons. There was a minute of silent prayer by the various religious leaders too.
