IRCC members residing within the South East District (SED) had a networking cum dialogue session with Mayor Dr Maliki yesterday evening at the Lifelong Learning Institute. He shared with us the 3 year work plan Harmony Efforts by South East which included:
1. Developing Champions of Racial & Social Harmony (train 100 facilitators in Interfaith engagements)
2. To support Ground-up efforts in Racial & Social Harmony (support 100 sustainable Ground Up Initiatives)
3. To promote greater awareness & appreciation of Racial & Social Harmony (50 platforms for Interfaith engagements). SED have already launched the Common Sense for Common Spaces (CSCS_ Interfaith Dialogue Series and the next talk is called "Follow that Rainbow" which will be held at SPH Auditorium on Sat, 21 Jan (4 pm - 6.30 pm). If you are interested to attend this talk, do sign up for it directly via https://goo.gl/srPeLA.
Dr Maliki related that IRCC can contribute and play a bigger role in the above 3 harmony efforts and he posed 3 case studies for group discussion:
1. Burning of incense paper
2. Wakes at void deck/common space
3. Parking issues at religious institutions.
Some of the members had been with IRCC since its inception in 2001 and they deliberated on the 3 issues which is a common recurrence in Singapore. The meeting debated on how to raise awareness and open up the minds of our people to interfaith understanding. It was a lively discussion and everyone enjoyed the fruitful dialogue with Dr Maliki.
