Learning journey to sun yat sen nanyang memorial hall
date: wednesday, 5 october 2016 | time: 10.15 am - 1.30 pm
venue: 12 Tai Gin Road, S327874
Siglap IRCC took 20 of their partners and residents on a learning journey to Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall (SYSNMH) this morning. The exhibits in this memorial hall documented Dr Sun's revolutionary activities in the Southeast Asian region, highlighted the impact of the 1911 Chinese Revolution on Singapore as well as our country’s contribution to the Revolution.
Being the HQ of Dr. Sun’s Chinese Revolution Alliance or Tong Meng Hui in Nanyang, Singapore played a pivotal role in the 1911 China Revolution. Loyal supporters of Dr. Sun included Teo Eng Hock, Tan Chor Lam and Lim Nee Soon and they provided valuable support in fund-raising and dissemination of revolutionary principles and ideals. It was in this memorial hall that Dr. Sun planned three of his 10 failed uprising (prior to the successful Wuchang Uprising in 1911).
The SYSNMH kindly provided 2 tour guides for our group. One of them was Ms Sadiah Shahal (our Advisor's wife) who gave an in-depth and fascinating tour of SYSNMH. All the participants enjoyed the tour very much and wish to thank both Ms. Sadiah and SYSNMH for a wonderful learning experience. We have so much more to learn about our Singapore history and culture. By learning and understanding the culture and history of the different races in Singapore, we hope to strengthen the social cohesion in our multi-racial society.
