pop up the soul
date: saturday, 29 april 2017 | time: 4 - 6.30 pm
venue: dunman high school
South East CDC held the finale of its inaugural Common Senses for Common Spaces (CSCS) interfaith dialogue today at Dunman High School. The topic of the talk today was entitled "Pop Up The Soul" which touches on enchanting tunes. Music transcends cultures and is capable of evoking emotions and spirituality. Both influence the personal and interpersonal natures of humans. While they share parallels, we need to ask whether there are significant connections between music and religion? Can rhythmic sounds help pop up the souls, or would it rock one's spiritual mettle? Is music able to humanise and harmonise religions? Can universal sounds strengthen universal bonds? After all, music "makes pictures and often tell stories". Pop up the Soul explores the sounds of spirituality and commonality.
The speakers today shared the role and importance of music from the faiths of Islam, Taoism and Hinduism. It was hearthening to see many students from Dunman High School attending the talk too. We need to teach racial understanding and how to live harmoniously together in our multi-racial country from young.
