follow the rainbow
date: saturday, 21 january 2017 | time: 4pm - 6pm
venue: sph auditorium, toa payoh
South East CDC organised an interfaith dialogue called ‘Follow the Rainbow – Beauty in the Eye of the Believer’ at SPH auditorium yesterday afternoon. It is a sequel from the 'Common Senses for Common Spaces' series and it is part of South East CDC's three–tier pyramid approach to allow for more intensive and effective interfaith and racial engagements. This novel approach allowed SE CDC to widen its reach, heighten awareness and deepen understanding on the different faiths and cultures across various strata of society while focusing on key commonalities within diversity.
In ‘Follow the Rainbow – Beauty in the Eye of the Believer’, the dialogue focused on ‘colors’, a significant feature that spices our lives. Three speakers from different professions and industries, and of different faiths, shared on the varying uses and impacts of colors – operational, social, emotional, economic, etc, in the course of their daily work. The speakers also touched on the spiritual representations of the different colors of their respective faiths. While colors may bear many hues and tones, they too share many commonalities as we strive towards a color-blind society.
In May 2015, the PM Lee cited the Global Religious Diversity Report which ranked Singapore as the most diverse nation, in terms of religions, out of 232 countries. Diversity is strength when properly cultivated and coordinated. But if left unattended, taken for granted or left to be manipulated, it would be disastrous. Singapore's interfaith fabric must be consciously and constantly monitored and nurtured to maintain and strengthen confidence and trust amongst our people. The participants of the dialogue included professionals, activists and youths from the social and corporate sectors, faith groups, IRCCs, schools and government agencies at the event. The Guest of Honor at the dialogue was Dr Maliki Osman (Mayor of South East District and Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Defence).
