
SECOND SIGLAP IRCC MEETING
Venue: Chee Hoon Kog Moral Promotion Society

Time: 8 - 9.30 pm
The Deputy Director of Community Engagement Unit of MCCY (Mr Vendesan Somo) addressed the Siglap IRCC members and briefed them on the 2013 IRCC Key Thrusts which includes:
1. Building Relationships by enhancing engagement efforts on ground levels by:
1.1 Leveraging on existing strengths, structure and platforms
1.2 Deepen collaborations
1.3 Promote greater understanding of religions
1.4 Ground initiatives
The desired outcome includes spreading relationship & understanding, commitments, convictions, ownership & effectiveness of engagement efforts
2. Building Confidence & Capabilities (continue to develop skill sets and capabilities and identifying a core group of activists)
The desired outcome is to increase capabilities & capacities of IRCCs
3. Assessing the Cohesiveness & Readiness (exercise mobilisation & recall plans [TTX] and crisis response plans [IBX]).
The desired outcome is to:
3.1 Manage & mitigate potential communal tensions
3.2 Strengthen individual & community crisis preparedness
4. Using Social Media to spread community understanding & promote IRCC image & brand. The desired outcome includes:
4.1 To increase the awareness of IRCC's roles & responsibilities to both stakeholders and the general public.
5. Other Challenges includes:
5.1 Providing a platform to engage our Youth.
5.2 Establish & collaborate (e.g. youth in religious organisations, IHS & other division)
5.3 Develop commitments
The desired outcome is to increase our youth's inter-faith activities and contribute to IRCC's objectives
After the briefing by Mr. Somo, members were informed by Dr. Daniel Tan that the Siglap IRCC website and Facebook account is up and running. The 2 new social media tools to engage our residents and youth can be found at the following URLs:
a) www.siglapircc.com - whereby >800 visitors have visited the website since it was set up about a month ago
b) http://www.facebook.com/siglap.ircc.1 - whereby to date, the Siglap IRCC FB have 42 Friends since its setup about a month ago
Members then spent the rest of the meeting deliberating and finalising the 2013 work plans for the rest of the year.
