The interfaith community in Singapore and the Indonesian Embassy held the inaugural Indonesia-Singapore Interfaith & Intercultural Fellowship and Dialogue (on best practices, lessons learnt and way forward) in Singapore from 11 – 14 July 2017. This was held in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of Indonesia - Singapore bilateral relations.
The 4-day programme involved faith leaders of the main faiths from both nations, who engaged in several dialogues and visits to faith institutions here, including the Inter Religious Organisation (IRO); Hindu Endowment Board; MUIS, Mahakaruna Buddhist Society and Church of St Mary of the Angels. The Indonesian delegation also made courtesy calls to Minister Vivian Balakrishnan (MFA) and Minister Grace Fu (MCCY). Coordinating Minister Khaw Boon Wan (MOT) was the GOH for the closing ceremony which was held yesterday evening at the Furama Riverfront Hotel.
Indonesian Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, Abdurrahman M Fachir and the Acting Director-General for Information and Public Diplomacy (MFA), Niniek Kun Naryati Siswojo, were the Special Guests at the Closing event. The Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs shared that although Singapore was a small country, it need to share with the rest of the world its best practices in maintaining racial harmony in our multi-racial and multi-cultural society. He welcome the Singapore interfaith community to visit Indonesia to build on this historic inaugural and successful meeting.
