SGSecure - call to action!
date: saturday, 24 sept 2016 | time: 8.30 am - 12 pm
venue: singapore university of technology & design
PM Lee launched the SGSecure this morning at Singapore University of Technology & Design (SUTD). He said that the government has stepped up its response to the terror threat but for it to succeed, every Singaporean has a part to play. He added that many terror acts are now carried out by self-radicalized lone wolfs. This “Call To Action” is to counter the terrorist threat which threatens the social fabric of our society, our religious harmony and which can polarize our multi-racial society. SGSecure will train and equip Singaporeans with the necessary skills to protect their families and our country. The 3 roles we can play a part in includes:
1. Be prepared and active citizens - to recognize and respond to suspicious behavior. Every Singaporean can make a difference – keep your eyes open and report to authorities of any suspicious behavior and activities.
2. Active responders – train to react and help others. At least 300 residents in every constituency will be trained to help others during crisis.
3. Effective mobilisers – to use network to mobilise communities to ensure racial and religious harmony.
PM Lee said that no role is too small in this national effort, which will be rolled out to every household in Singapore. A new mobile app was also launched to act as a public alert system and to provide a platform for the public to send feedback to the authorities. You can download this SGSecure mobile app at your iPhone or android phones.
PM Lee added that IRCC plays an important role in SGSecure and each of us can do more by:
1) Being willing to give and take
2) Reach out to our multi-racial communities, understand their culture and beliefs, etc.
3) Speak out against discrimination, harassment, etc. Such intolerance has no place in our society and we must take a stand against it.
PM Lee said that terrorists are indiscriminately targeting the fabric of our society. We must therefore all stand up and look at the problem straight in the face and do the right thing to address it. We must be prepared and get ready to act! Stay ALERT, Stay UNITED, Stay STRONG!
Majulah Singapura!
