learning journey to ba'alwei mosque
date: saturday,4 november 2017 | time: 11 am - 2 pm
venue: 1 lewis road
This morning, Siglap IRCC took 20 members and residents on a Learning Journey to Ba'alwei mosque which is located at Lewis Road. On our arrival, we were warmly greeted by Iman Habib Hassan. Amongst other things, he shared with us that through the years, we have lost the "trust" within our communities and races. In the early days, our community was more closely knitted together with the kampung spirit. Nowadays, we question everything and do not bother to look out for each other.
He gave us a guided tour of their "Museum of Qurans in a Mosque" where some of the them were written on mulberry leaves. The oldest Quran in their collection was 600 years old from Turkey. There were also collections of the Holy Bible dating >150 years old and other religious books.
Our group was treated to a sumptuous lunch and after which our fellow Muslim friends went for their prayers. Our non Muslim friends were given an explanation on how the Muslim conducted their prayers.
It was a very enlightening learning journey indeed and we are indeed lucky to be hosted by Habib Hassan who is a very busy person. It is humbling to be able to learn so much on such a short time at his mosque.
